XRPL Token Launch Cost

Issuing a token on the XRP Ledger needs no contract: an account issues it and another holds it. What a launch costs is mostly reserves you keep, a few fees that are destroyed, and the XRP you put in the token’s first pool. xrpl.to’s launch wizard asks 105 XRP for a launch with a 100 XRP pool.

Doing it yourself

Without a launch service the ledger’s own costs are all there is:

  • 1 XRP reserved in each of the two accounts, issuer and holder.
  • 0.2 XRP reserved for the holder’s trust line to the token, and again for its line to the pool’s LP token.
  • 0.2 XRP destroyed to create the pool: AMMCreate’s fee is one owner reserve increment (rippled).
  • The pool’s XRP, as much as you choose, and about 0.000012 XRP for each other transaction.

Order matters: an issuer that wants a fixed supply should blackhole its account only after the supply is issued and the pool exists (how to launch a token).

Questions

How much does it cost to create a token on the XRP Ledger?
On the ledger itself, very little: 1 XRP held in reserve for each account, 0.2 XRP for each trust line, and about 0.000012 XRP a transaction. Creating the AMM pool burns one more reserve increment, and the pool needs whatever XRP you put into it.
What does xrpl.to charge to launch a token?
A launch fee of 2 XRP when the creator keeps none of the supply, rising with the share the creator keeps; xrpl.to also keeps 3% of the supply. The wizard shows the exact amount before you pay.
Do I get the reserve back?
Reserve XRP stays locked while the account and its objects exist. It becomes spendable again when the objects are removed, and the account’s base reserve, minus a fee, when the account is deleted.
