XRPL Gaming Projects

The XRP Ledger's fast finality and native NFT support make it a strong foundation for blockchain gaming. Here are the projects building on it.

Gaming on the XRP Ledger

XRPL offers several advantages for game developers: 3-5 second transaction finality means in-game actions settle almost instantly, sub-cent fees make microtransactions viable, and native XLS-20 NFTs provide true item ownership without deploying smart contracts. Players can trade, sell, or transfer game items directly on the ledger.

Zerpmon

Zerpmon is a Pokemon-inspired NFT battle game built entirely on the XRP Ledger. Players collect Zerpmon creature NFTs, each with unique stats and abilities, and battle other players in PvP matches.

  • NFT-based creatures — each Zerpmon is a unique XLS-20 NFT with on-chain attributes
  • PvP battles — turn-based combat between players’ creatures
  • Rewards — battles and missions pay out in-game rewards; check the game’s own site for what they are
  • Missions & quests — daily challenges for additional rewards
  • Tradeable on XRPL.to — browse and trade Zerpmon NFTs on the NFT marketplace

Other Gaming Projects

The XRPL gaming ecosystem is growing. Other projects include NFT-based card games, virtual worlds using XRPL tokens as in-game currency, and collectible games where NFT rarity determines gameplay advantages. Many gaming NFT collections are listed on the NFT market.

NFTs in Gaming

XLS-20 NFTs on the XRPL are ideal for in-game items because they support transfer fees (royalties for developers on secondary sales), burnable flags (items can be consumed in-game), and a link to metadata (each NFT carries a URI of up to 256 bytes; the stats and artwork it points to live off the ledger, usually on IPFS). Players truly own their items and can trade them on any XRPL marketplace.

Why XRPL for Gaming

  • 3-5 second finality — near-instant confirmation for in-game transactions
  • Less than $0.01 per transaction — microtransactions are economically viable
  • No gas wars — predictable costs even during high activity
  • Native NFT support — no smart contract deployment needed for items
  • Built-in DEX — players can trade items and tokens directly on-chain
