How to Buy NFTs on the XRP Ledger

NFTs on the XRP Ledger are bought and sold through offers the ledger itself keeps: a sell offer at a price, a bid from a buyer, and the trade swaps the NFT and the payment in one step, so neither side has to trust the other. How it works, what it costs, and what to check first.

Three ways a sale happens

  • You accept a sell offer. The owner listed it at a price; buying it now takes that offer.
  • The owner accepts your bid. You offer a price; it waits until the owner accepts it, or you cancel it.
  • A marketplace matches the two. As a broker it pairs a sell offer with a buy offer and may keep the difference as its fee (xrpl.org).

Buying on xrpl.to

  • Open NFT collections and pick one; the collection page shows its floor, recent sales and every listed piece.
  • On an NFT’s page, Buy Now takes the cheapest live sell offer, and Make Offer places a bid.
  • To buy several at once, add them to the cart on the collection page and buy them together.
  • To sell, List for Sale on the NFT’s page, or accept a bid someone made.

What to check before buying

  • The issuer. A copy of a known collection has a different issuer address; the collection page shows the real one.
  • Scam flags. xrpl.to marks collections and NFTs linked to known scams; an NFT that arrived unasked with a link to “claim” something is a lure.
  • Recent sales, not only the floor. A floor nobody buys at is an asking price, not a value (NFT market stats).
  • Where the art lives. An NFT whose link points at an ordinary web server can change or disappear (why).

Questions

What does it cost to buy an NFT on the XRP Ledger?
The price, a network fee of about 0.000012 XRP, and 0.2 XRP held in reserve if the NFT starts a new page in your account (a page holds up to 32 NFTs). A marketplace that brokers the sale may add its own fee.
Who pays the creator’s royalty?
It comes out of the price: the seller receives the price minus the creator’s share. The ledger takes it on every sale through NFT offers; a transfer at no price pays none.
Is my XRP locked when I make an offer?
No. The offer only holds 0.2 XRP in reserve; the XRP you offer stays in your account and must still be there when the seller accepts, or the trade fails.
